Trip Overview

This is a journey of a lifetime. A mecca for all trekkers. Our experience of over 30 years ensures that your trip will provide you with a host of memories. Your guide will be a Sherpa who will have climbed Mount Everest and instead of one porter for 2 people we will provide 4 porters who will carry extras such as soft pillows, hot water bottles and snacks. These porters will all be expedition Sherpa porters who will also have been part of Everest climbs. The highlight of the trip aside from having reached base camp and viewing Everest from Kala Patthar will be your spectacular helicopter flight. You will also be better acclimatized than other trekkers with extra days allowed on the ascent. You will not have to retrace your route down so will enjoy your experience all the more.

Full Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu [4346 ft / 1317m]

Upon arrival and completion of immigration formalities at Kathmandu airport you will be met by your representative and escorted to your hotel, which is located 15 minutes from the airport. After freshening up, there will be a full briefing on your program. Lunch will be at the hotel. With your guide and driver we visit the temple complex of Boudhanath. This is located 20 minutes from the hotel. Boudhanath is one of the largest Stupas in Asia and is home to some 10000 Tibetan refugees. Surrounding the Stupa there are many colourful Tibetan shops and tea houses.

Day 2: Fly to Lukla. Trek to Phakding [8613ft / 2610m] 3 Hour trek

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Lukla. This 40 minute flight follows the Langtang and Jugal ranges before entering the Eastern region where you pass Rolwaling Himal. Gaurisankar and Menlumtse before approaching the Khumbu area. After arrival at Lukla Airport you set out on your trek to Phakding. You begin with a gentle climb up by the left bank of the Dudh Koshi River. Konge Ri dominates the sky line in Lukla– 6187 m / 20,418 ft. Nupla 19420 ft / 5885m and Kusumkang 21000 ft / 6367m can be seen in the distance. Following the left bank of Dudh Koshi river you reach Phakding in time for lunch. There are a number of optional walks in the afternoon.

Day 3: Trek to Namche [11350 ft /3440m]. 6 hour trek

After breakfast you trek to the village of Monjo. Your route follows a level path along the right bank. From the resort, Thamserku Peak (21860 ft / 6623 m.) looms skyward on the opposite bank. After crossing a stream and climbing the terraced hill from the Dudh Koshi route, you arrive at Banker. Continuing through a forest you arrive at Chumoa where you can visit a Vegetable Farm. Walking along a path with many ups and downs, you cross a stream and enter the small village of Monjo. The route then descends until you reach a suspension bridge. After a short climb you come to Jorshale, the entrance to the National Park. Walking along the river you enter a forested mountainside and pass by a rocky area. After crossing a high winding path you descend to the riverbed and reach a V-shaped valley. Here the river forks – to the right is Dudh Kosi and to the left the Bhote Kosi that leads to Nangpa La. Crossing a suspension bridge you walk a short distance along the Bhote Kosi before ascending to Namche Bazaar.

Day 4: Namche Bazaar Excursion [11350ft / 3440m]

Today is an acclimatization day so you have a layover day in Namche Bazaar. There will be time to stroll through this Sherpa village, visit the mountain museum, and trek to a view point offering unsurpassed views of Mount Everest.

Day 5: Namche to Tengboche (3,867m/12684ft), 5-6 hour trek

Today after breakfast we start our trek with a pleasant walk along open paths which then become forests. Along the way, there are magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Included are the mighty peaks of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kwangde peak with distant views of the eastern snow capped mountains. The trail then leads uphill through forested paths before reaching Tyangboche. The first thing that comes to view is the famous Monastery below which there is a large open field with towering views of the majestic peak of Ama Dablam. In the late afternoon, we will visit the monastery.

Day 6: Tengboche to Pheriche (4,240m/14,295 ft), 5-6 hour trek

The trail descends down from Tengboche, winding through the rhododendron forest to Deboche and then crosses a bridge over the raging Imja Khol River. We have lunch around the village of Pengboche.The trail then opens out until we reach the village of Pheriche which will be our base for the next 2 nights,

Day 7: Acclimatization day around Pheriche.5 hour trek

Today we will hike to to Chhukung (4,730m/ 15600 ft) . This is a beautiful place where we have lunch. There are superb views of the nearby glacier. This walk will take some 5 hours and we pass through the village of Dingboche having crossed a small pass from Pheriche. We return along the same path to our hotel.

Day 8: Pheriche to Dughla. [4620m / 15246ft] 3 hour trek

This is a short day from a trekking point of view so we can leave at 1000. The trek begins along an open valley and for the last hour you climb to Dughla. There are only 2 basic tea houses here so the afternoon can be spent resting. Most groups only have lunch here but we feel that by spending a night here you are even better prepared for the days to come.

Day 9: Dughla to Lobuche. [4910m / 16200 ft] 3 hour trek

Again this is a short day’s walking but there is an altitude gain. Before reaching Lobuche
you have a steep trek over the Dughla pass. At the top of the pass there are many monuments to climbers that have died on Everest. Being here early is a moving experience since there will be few trekkers and well worth stopping to photograph the area. Having crossed the pass, we enter the moraine of the Khumbu glacier. We reach Lobuche in time for lunch. The afternoon is free to explore the surrounding valley.

Day 10: Trek to Gorakshep (5,160m/16,929ft) & Kala Pattar (5,550m/18,204ft) 6 hour trek

After breakfast we continue our trek to Gorekshep. This follows a rocky path with views of Mt. Pumori, Mt. Nuptse and other surrounding peaks. There are also sweeping vistas of the Khumbu glacier. After check in at lodge, we hike up to Kala Pathar for spectacular afternoon views of Mount Everest and the Khumbu Ice Fall. It takes about 2 hours to reach this hill top (the famous view point). This small peak offers the best views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and Ama Dablam along with the entire range of the Khumbu Himalayas. After spending time in this magical place, we hike down to Gorekshep.

Day 11: Early Hike to Everest Base Camp & trek back to Lobuche. 6 hour trek

After an early breakfast, we trek to Everest Base Camp and to the Khumbu Ice-fall. The trail passes over rocky dunes, moraine and streams, until you reach the tourist base camp. We continue on to the “expedition” base camp where climbers base themselves for the climb. We will explore this location before returning to Gorekshep for lunch. After lunch we trek down to Lobuche for you last night in the Everest region. It is at Lobuche that you will say farewell to your porters.

Day 12: Helicopter to Kathmandu

This morning the helicopter arrives for your spectacular flight back to Kathmandu. Your summiteer guide will accompany you. The helicopter will overfly the base camp before crossing the Cho La pass where you will have magnificent views of the beautiful Gokyo lake. The helicopter will land in Lukla to re fuel before heading back to Kathmandu where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The afternoon is free to relax.

Day 13: Kathmandu Sightseeing

After breakfast you leave for Kathmandu Durbar square where we explore with your city guide some of the more famous temples and palaces. We then walk from the square along back streets to the tourist centre of Thamel where you can do any last minute shopping. Lunch will be at a local restaurant in Thamal. Your guide can also recommend a local restaurant for dinner should you wish to remain in Thamel.

Day 14: Depart

Today you will be escorted to the airport for your onward journey.
